Francesco Castoro Tenor, Italy ”Since I was a child I have felt incredible physical sensations when singing or listening to music.” What inspired you to become a singer? Since I was a child I have felt incredible physical sensations when singing or listening to music, so to become a singer is living with these sensations. What’s your dream role and why? My dream role is Radames of Aida (and it will remain in my dreams because I will not be able to sing it within the next 20 years) because it is the first role I ever saw in a theater. I love his strongness, honour and love to Aida. Who is your favourite singer and why? I have too many singers I love. But there are two singers who serve as my point of reference: Alfredo Kraus, for his vocal longevity and his radical choice of repertoire, and Nicolai Gedda for his incredible intelligence. Both are also masters of technique. What do you hope to achieve by participating in The Queen Sonja International Music Competition? I hope to grow as a singer, and to find new opportunities in this work. Tell us something about yourself! I have a three-year old son. When my wife and I chose his name, we checked all the names of tenor characters in opera because we didn’t want to give him a tenor name. His name is Giorgio.
