Yang Luo Tenor, China “As a child, I wanted to be a singer and sing songs to the world.” What Inspired you to become a singer? My mother has a good voice, so I have enjoyed singing with her, but I am an introvert. In songs where I can express myself freely I find a different and good kind of self. I have a great love for my voice and my songs, and therefore, as a child I wanted to be a singer and sing songs to the world. What’s your dream role and why? I want to be Rodolfo in “La Boheme” by Puccini, whom I believe is an idol to all tenors. I am keen on the music by Puccini, it is simple and vivid. When I listen to it I am moved. Who is your favorite singer and why? I admire the well-known singer Nicolai Gedda very much because he is perfect. What do you hope to achieve by participating in The Queen Sonja International Music Competition? I hope not only to make more friends, but also to show myself well through the contest. Tell us something surprising and unexpected about yourself? Every time, before I sing or perform opera I burp. It makes me feel relieved. Elsewise, I will feel some unrest and be tense. Is there anything else you would like to tell us, which might be interesting to the public? Chinese people are hospitable. You are welcome to listen to our opera and music, and you will find that China is getting better and better.
