What inspired you to become a singer?
I made my debut as the Queen of the Night in the bathtub at age four and no one has managed to shut me up since. Growing up, I sang in, accompanied, and conducted choirs. It was then that I discovered the special energy of collective music-making that I later found in opera.
What’s your dream role and why?
I have so many. At the moment, I'd say that Poppea from L'incoronazione di Poppea is high on my list. The music and text are incredibly sexy - she's such a deliciously vile character. I also enjoy the way the continuo group and singers work together in the improvisational spirit of a jazz combo.
Who is your favourite singer and why?
I love Claudia Muzio's recordings; she has such bite to her sound and every single note is full of intention and intensity.
What do you hope to achieve by participating in The Queen Sonja International Music Competition?
I am excited to perform for the jury and the people of Oslo while meeting singers from all over the world.
Tell us something surprising or unexpected about yourself!
A voracious reader, I'm currently reading a Norwegian murder mystery set in Oslo. It's making me very excited to see your city!
Is there anything else you would like to tell us, which might be interesting to the public?
I'm originally Canadian but now live in Frankfurt, Germany where I will join the Ensemble of Oper Frankfurt next season.
