Eunhye Choi Soprano, South Korea «I can't wait to sing for the Norwegian audience!» What inspired you to become a singer? A question led me to become a singer. One day when I was 15, my mother asked me: 'Which do you prefer, to study or to sing?' I answered in a casual manner: 'I enjoy studying, and I'm happy when I sing.' After that day, I chose happiness, and I knew what I needed to do for sure. What’s your dream role and why? I love the role Rosina from Il barbiere di Siviglia. Rosina's aria 'Una voce poco fa' is the first aria I learned. I want to be a title role as a charming and clever Rosina in a love story. Who is your favorite singer and why? I cannot say anyone but Maria Callas. I love women with strong charisma, and she does have it. What do you hope to achieve by participating in The Queen Sonja International Music Competition? I want to make beautiful music and share my personal understanding of the pieces. Furthermore, I would love to touch the audience. The Competition is a place where singers can get recognition and I will do my best to achieve that. I also hope to receive some constructive feedback from the jury that can help me get into the opera world. Tell us something surprising and unexpected about yourself? In August, right after the Competition, I am going to record an opera Le due duchesse by G. S. Mayr with the Naxos label in Germany. Is there anything else you would like to tell us, which might be interesting to the public? I hope that my songs will give the audience a happy time. I can't wait to sing for the Norwegian audience!
