Anna Maria Sarra Soprano, Italy “I discovered opera thanks to my grandparents, especially my grandfather. It’s because of them that I'm an opera singer!” What inspired you to become a singer? When I was a child, I used to sing with my parents. My father played the guitar, and me and my mother sang pop music. I really enjoyed it. I started to play the piano too because my mom is a piano teacher but I knew that my talent was singing. I discovered opera thanks to my grandparents, especially my grandfather. It’s because of them that I'm an opera singer! And because of Maria Callas' Traviata! What’s your dream role and why? I really love 1900 Repertoire. I could say Sophie in Der Rosekavalier by Richard Strauss, Le feu in L'enfant et les sortileges by Ravel, Amenaide in Tancredi by Rossini. And one day maybe Lucia! Who is your favorite singer and why? I would say Mariella Devia for her tecnique. She is perfect. Also Diana Damrau and Astrid Varnay. I really love to listen to her in repertoire that I will never sing in my life! What do you hope to achieve by participating in The Queen Sonja International Music Competition? For sure, to test myself! The competition is a very good way to present myself to important people. It's a challenge, and I love challenges! Tell us something surprising and unexpected about yourself? My dog's name is Strauss in honor of Richard Strauss. I love rock music, especially AC/DC. I enjoy changing my hair. Every two weeks I change my colour or cut! I'm vegetarian and animalist. Is there anything else you would like to tell us, which might be interesting to the public? I only want to say thank you to my family and my boyfriend for the support and for the love. Without them I couldn't be where I am now.
