«I love books! It's very interesting to dive into another world, and learn something new.»

What inspired you to become a singer?
I have been dreaming about opera since my childhood. When I was 7 years old, my favourite entertainment was to sing fragments of the opera Carmen for my family. Later, I was in love with musical theatre. I studied violin at the Central Music School in Moscow, one of the best and most famous schools for young musicians. When I was 18 I had my first vocal lesson with a soloist from The Bolschoi Theatre – Irina Dolzhenko – and she told me that if I kept practicing I had the potential to become a good opera singer.

What’s your dream role and why?
My dream roles are Carmen from Bizet's opera and Angelina from La Cenerentola by Gioachino Rossini. The role of Carmen is very interesting for me, not only because of the great music, but also because of her temperament and passion. Angelina is a completely different character; she is very nice and sweet, and I love to sing Rossini! In his operas, there is always a lot of fun and great music.

What do you hope to achieve by participating in The Queen Sonja International Music Competition?
The Queen Sonja International Music Competition is one of the biggest and most prestigious competitions for singers. I'm very happy and honoured to have the opportunity to take part in it. I will try to do my best. I'm sure that this summer in Oslo will be unforgettable.

Tell us something surprising or unexpected about yourself!
I love books! It's very interesting to dive into another world and learn something new. I also write poetry myself. I wrote my first poem at the age of 13 and I still write when inspiration comes.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us, which might be interesting to the public?
I was 12 years old the first time I visited Vienna with my family. I came to the city to take violin classes. The first evening my parents and I went to see the Vienna State Opera. Since that moment I have dreamt about living in that city and being able to visit that theatre. Now I'm 24, I live in Vienna and I have a contract with the Vienna State Opera as a soloist. Sometimes dreams come true.
