What inspired you to become a singer?
Singing is my life! When I was a child I liked to sing and play my guitar. Then I found myself in a professional boys’ choir, then a church choir, and then I became the soloist of the choir of the Brest State University. Of course, I didn't know then that I would be an opera singer, but I wanted to go forward, to develop. So it was a great joy for me when I was admitted to the St. Petersburg State Conservatory.
What’s your dream role and why?
Boris Godunov and King Philip II. I really like the psychological and dramatic components of these characters. Russian and Italian operas are very good for my type of voice.
Who is your favorite singer and why?
Fedor Shalyapin, Boris Christoff, Nicolai Ghiaurov, Cesare Siepi, Samuel Ramey, George London and Nikolai Okhotnikov are all very great basses for me. These names are always present in my playlist.
What do you hope to achieve by participating in The Queen Sonja International Music Competition?
For me, the competition is a big step towards becoming an opera singer. I feel very lucky to be taking part!
Tell us something surprising or unexpected about yourself!
Before discovering opera I sang jazz, blues and rock music as well as performing in choirs. My first education is in psychology.
