Kiandra Howarth Soprano, Australia “QSIMC is one of the leading vocal competitions of its kind in the world” 1) What inspired you to become a singer? I began singing in choirs when I was 7 years old, and from there went on to start private singing lessons when I was 9 years old. 2) What’s your dream role and why? I saw my first opera when I was 10, and remember saying to my mother in the interval that I wanted to become an opera singer and perform on the stage. That opera was Tosca, which is my dream role. Ever since that performance that I saw in my home state (Queensland, Australia), I have wanted to one day perform it. 3) Who is your favourite opera singer and why? I have so many singers of the past and present that I admire, including Renata Scotto, Renata Tebaldi, Galina Vishnevskaya, Bryn Terfel, Luciano Pavarotti (to name a few). However, for me the singer I most admire is Maria Callas. Her voice was perhaps not as stunning as Tebaldi, Freni or Scotto, however for me she is the greatest artist. 4) What do you hope to achieve by participating in The Queen Sonja International Music Competition? I am very excited to compete in the Queen Sonja International Music Competition,as I feel it will be a wonderful help to my career and performance development, as it is one of the leading vocal competitions of its kind in the world.
